Modularity:  Convertible seating system approach…

Baseline seat model approach offers a viable ‘plug and play’ solution that open opportunity to a full spectrum of operations and competitive product value. With a common baseline seat and universal interface, upgrades are now possible with just a simple kit exchange. Modularity model approach allows for incremental upgrades, the need to step from a non-EA model to a full EA system is accomplished without changing the baseline seat. Kitted EA hardware are using the same mounting locations with no changes to vehicle interior; the marginal cost is limited to the kit upgrade only – no need to repurchase a new seat. Additionally, modularity model approach increases manufacturability process and timing, reduced amount of parts and assemblies, one tool action simplifies product serviceability and cost.

High aesthetic appeal:  Seat beauty and brawn gets equal representation…

With a combination of well thought aesthetics, organically shrink-wrapped exterior shapes conducive to superior occupant comfort, gender or body fitment are the visual measurable aspects of the seat technology. The seat “hidden technology” facet is appended by DOD military design criteria, DOT safety regulations combination of strict standards, energy attenuation realization and injury protection requirements.
Seat structural affirmation is to support a wide range of the occupant sizes including combat gear, integrate the mechanical joints between the backrest and cushion, attachments for restraints and connectivity to energy attenuation module. Structural backrest and cushion designs are conducive to withstand prolonged use and load management for head, neck, torso, pelvis and thighs. Structural cushion incorporates specially shaped panels to reduce tendency for occupants to slide beneath the seatbelt in a severe frontal collision – feature also commonly known as anti-submarine.
Soft trim elements, backrest and cushion pads encapsulates structural frame to accentuate the overall seat shape and general dimensions. Prerequisite for backrest and cushion pads is to actively support occupant body, provide comfort under static or dynamic duties. The seat pads implement multiple knowledge base and data points for materials mechanical property, comfort evaluation, multi axis support and occupant hip point (HP) placement with quantifiable coordinate system. Upholstery design accounts for tougher material, resilient to normal duty wear and tear, temperature variances and liquid repellent. Mechanical threads and sew lines distribution throughout the seat surface are judiciously placed away from tissue region that are conducive of blood flow blockage or nerve pinching area.
Closeout panels for backrest and cushion provides the seat enclosure, progressively shaped for a packed down and optimal space claim. Closeout panels offer shock absorption, penetration protection from external elements and supports standing soldier, including combat gear. Closeout panels fastening requires no tools or mechanical fasteners of any kind – an advantage, with significant savings impact throughout manufacturing process, serviceability and overall seat weight reduction.

Market Solutions

Convertible seat system is represented by two major modules; baseline seat and the kitted hardware. Baseline seat is a stand-alone unit, comprised of fully assembled seat components and integrated safety harness system.
The kitted hardware is also presented as fully assembled stand-alone unit and based on vehicle type requirements (e.g. armored or non-armored), kits are provided in two type of categories:
-    Non-EA kit module.
-    EA kit module tuned to specific vehicle size and pulse.
Both aforementioned kit modules share common seat interface and vehicle interior fastening position.

Ability to be used across multiple vehicle platforms with minimal NRE
Convertible seat methodology approach enables common seat integration across multiple vehicle platforms with minimal NRE. Convertible seat adaptations are commonly used under the following scenarios:
-    Directly floor mounted, with seats forward or side facing.
-    Wall suspended (vehicle wall could be vertical or at angular orientation)
-    Roof / celling suspended.
-    Pivotal or vertical lift posts
The perquisite for convertible seat equipped with EA kit is to allow for vertical stroke space and the allocated area under the seat must be free of physical obstacles and no storage should be considered under the seat.
